Auburn Concrete Excels With Benchmarking

Auburn Concrete and Auburn Aggregates are leading construction materials producers in Maine and an NRMCA Producer member. The family-run company was started by Rod Cummings with just one plant in 1972. In 1998, he jumped into the southern Maine market and began operating as Auburn Concrete. Auburn Concrete now boasts nine plants, 56 mixer trucks and supplies itself and others with stone products from its sister company, Auburn Aggregates. Cummings died in November 2023, leaving the company in the hands of his two children, President Joel Cummings and Treasurer Lori Gile. In addition to dedicated family leadership, the ready mix producer has grown from its strong regional roots by strategically tapping into a wider industry network of producers and resources.

As the company continued to grow, Gile, along with sales and quality control manager Remi Delcourt, recognized the need for new technology. Again, the producer relied on its strong network of peers for collective wisdom. Auburn Concrete heard about BCMI Corp.’s cloud-based solution from a peer group of six other ready mix producers from around the country. The group spent three days together sharing ideas, best practices and current challenges. At that meeting, one of the other producers spoke about utilizing BCMI’s Material Pro software for internal analytics, eTicketing, quoting and dispatch. The producer told Gile, “This company is built on the experience of ready mix producers that have been in the field. They’re not just software guys.”
